2021 National award for institutions engaged in empowering persons with disabilities – Sarvshrestha Sugamya Yatayat ke Sadahan/ Soochana Evem Sanchar Prodyogiki
Ecommittee Supreme Court of India was awarded the National award for institutions engaged in empowering persons with disabilities, 2021 – Sarvshrestha Sugamya Yatayat ke Sadahan/ Soochana Evem Sanchar Prodyogiki by the Honble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu at a function held at Vigyan bhawan on 3rd December 2022. The task of making the digital infrastructure of the Indian Judicial system more accessible to persons with disabilities has been a core component of the work of the Ecommittee, Supreme Court of India. The Hon’ble Chief Justice of India Dr Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, who is also the patron in chief & Chairperson of the eCommittee has exhorted all High Courts to make their digital infrastructure accessible to persons with disabilities in conformity with the constitutional and statutory entitlements of the disabled suggesting a series of structural interventions for all High Courts. A significant milestone in the Ecommittee‘s efforts towards this objective has resulted in making all High Court websites, the websites of the Ecommittee and e-Courts, and judgement search portal accessible to persons with disabilities. For legal professionals with disabilities, these measures have been a significant step in enabling them to participate in the profession on the same footing as their able-bodied counterparts and it is a way forward in creating an accessible and inclusive legal system.
